After 'surviving' their overnight survival experience on the Leaver's Programme the 1st IX girls were looking forward to their final match of the season against Queen Mary's. Despite the sea fret, it was still warm and pleasant, even if at times it was a little difficult to see the ball! We won the toss and elected to field, making a good start by stumping the first two batters out at 1st base, which was quickly followed by another a couple of balls later. The Queen Mary's girls scored some great rounders, but three catches at back stop by Anna slowed them down. Three batters remained and it took the Bramcote girls a while to get them out and they steadily increased their score with some strong hitting and sensible running.
When the Bramcote girls came into bat they had mixed fortunes with Queen Mary's taking some solid catches in the deep field and at back stop. Rounders came from Emily and Emily, but it was Anna and Miranda who were left to take the Bramcote score up to 17 by scoring 6 and 7 1/2 rounders each.
The second innings was very similar to the first for both teams with further stumpings at 1st base, four quick catches from Emily Edwards at bowler, a superb running catch from India in the deep field behind 3rd base and Miranda took a difficult catch that was by her ankles at 1st base. Victoria who was positioned between 2nd and 3rd base made some quick pick ups helping to stop both full and half rounders. Queen Mary's batted well with a few members of their team staying in to keep the score ticking over.
When Bramcote came into bat for the final time it was the same scenario as the first innings with Queen Mary's stumping and catching the same Bramcote players as before, leaving the same four batters to try and bat out the innings. Emily, Emily, Anna and Miranda all contributed to the score with Anna the last batter standing - all helping Bramcote to a 26 1/2 - 17 1/2 win.
A great team effort with some super individual performances - a special mention to captain Anna who scored 11 1/2 rounders in total and Miranda who scored 9 in total. A pleasing end to a successful season. Well done everyone.
