U9 cricket v Scarborough College (h)

1st innings: Scarborough College 249, Bramcote 228.

In the first innings, Bramcote bowled and fielded reasonably tidily. The best overs coming from Freddie Lockwood and Benjie Wilson who each conceded only a single each from their accurate bowling. William Watts caused the most problems for the oppositions best batsmen, taking the only wicket to fall.

In batting, Bramcote lost rather too many runs due to the fall of wickets (5 in all, costing 25 runs) which accounted for the final difference between the sides. Harry Exley-Morre and William Watts provided a good opening partnership and Freddie Lockwood hit some lusty blows at the end.

When it was decided that time allowed a second innings the scores were even closer.

2nd innings: Scarborough College 256, Bramcote 258.

This time around the tightest over was bowled by David Bulmer, whilst the most successful came from Year 2 Stephen Davison who took 2 wickets, both thanks to super catching from Freddie Lockwood in the outfield. Captain Harry Exley-Moore encouraged his team well. The target seemed a daunting one, particularly after the loss of three wickets near the start. Freddie Lockwood changed the game with 21 runs (2x fours, 2x sixes) in one over. Benjie Wilson and Stephen Davison were able to see the side through to the end with some sensible hitting.

All in all, a very enjoyable and reasonably matched contest which our visitors deserved to win when the aggregate scores were taken into account, by 19 runs.
