Under 9 Girls Rounders vs Cundall Manor (a)

The Bramcote girls arrived at Cundall a little late, in a different vehicle and with a different coach to they had set off with (but that’s a different story) and were ready for business. Hannah Cowen (4th deep) was the proud captain of the squad of only 8: Emily Hughes (bowler), Tilly Dewhirst (backstop), Amy El-Barghouty (1st base), Charlotte Smith (2nd base), Lily Naylor (3rd base), Madeline Mackilligin (4th base) and Georgie Kidger (3rd deep).

We lost the toss and were therefore in the unfortunate position of batting first. We played tremendously and I was very proud of them when both coaches (Hannah Mackilligin and Wilkie) and also the 1st IX rounders team told me about their superb hitting. Tilly Dewhirst scored a huge 3½ rounders, Emily and Charlotte 1½ and Madeleine 1. This great score was even achieved against an accidental fielding side of 10 Cundall players! Well done girls, that was a super innings.

But then the tables turned and the girls felt the pressure a little, Emily’s bowling was not as reliable as normal and the fielding skills and passing a little sloppy. Once again we were incredibly lucky and managed to keep the Cundall team down to 6½, even with only 8 fielders. Unfortunately the rain began towards the end of the innings and so the pitch was deemed unplayable to keep all of the girls from injury. A very close match and win for Bramcote, 7½ - 6½.

This was another win for the under 9 girls who are having a superb season and absolutely love the sport. When we return after ½ term we need to fine tune our fielding skills in preparation for the local derby, Scarborough College on 11th June!

I really would like to congratulate the girls on playing a great match and taking on the challenge. Mrs Mackilligin did an excellent job of umpiring, coaching and scoring despite being thrown into it at the last minute! Mr Wilkie was, as ever, very gracious about coming to our rescue!
