The Bramcote team gave their best bowling and fielding performance of the season but their batting revealed its familiar frailities as they fell 17 runs short of victory.
Woodleigh batted first and their accomplished openers looked in little trouble until an eventful over from Charlie Watts which included four wides accounted for both of them. From then on the Bramcote bowlers did a good job with Henry Truelove and Josh Kidger both taking three wickets and this accurate bowling was supported by some solid catching and competent ground fielding. Woodleigh were bowled out for 85 which at Under 11 level is a testing target but an emminently gettable one.
The Bramcote opening pair of Charlie Watts and Harry Anderson looked comfortable against Woodleigh's bowlers but when were out a clutch of quick wickets effectively settled the match. Josh Kidger, Will Newitt and Charlie Cowen struck some useful blows and there was always faint hope while Toby Wrightson was at the wicket but eventually Bramcote came up short. The Woodleigh bowling was pretty good and reflected the fact that they have won all their games this season but some of the home side's batting looked a bit ordinary. Eight players were clean bowled whcih suggests that basic defence stills needs a bit of work! On a day when we needed someone to stick around and score thirty runs our top scorer got 15 which wasn't really enough.
