At Bramcote we attempt to make the learning of Maths a fun and enjoyable experience. In the early years we concentrate upon the vital basic numeracy skills. We place a major emphasis upon the learning of basic number facts, times tables and mental arithmetic skills. The children will do this through daily games and activities, and using the ICT resources within the school. As well as all the text books you would expect, Bramcote Maths classroom often has children jumping up and down as they try to beat their colleagues or even the clock on the latest computer game! As each child progresses in Maths they will experience a curriculum that is designed to consolidate existing skills as well as stretching children to acquire and apply increasingly more difficult Maths concepts. At all times the children will be encouraged to apply the skills that they are developing, and the professional staff are always available to provide support and guidance when it is needed. In the final years at Bramcote we thoroughly prepare the children for the challenges ahead, but we are conscious of also preparing them to be competent mathematicians in the real world, and not just the classroom. Project work, measurement activities and field work all help to show the children how Maths is used in day to day situations.
