ICT
ICT at Bramcote is taught in the Prep School as a separate curriculum subject to Years 4, 5 and 6. In these year groups the pupils receive 2 lessons a week, (usually a double lesson), in the ICT suite. The aim of the ICT teaching is give the pupils the chance to become both confident and competent in the basic skills of computing.

Basic skills of word processing, using Microsoft Word, are taught including document layout and design; this includes the importing of relevant graphics and images. Instruction is also given in the use of spreadsheets, Microsoft Excel, and the benefits of working in columns and rows and data handling techniques. Document design and layout is also developed with the design of posters and cover pages for projects. There is evidence throughout the school.

Throughout this teaching the pupils are given instruction on the use of the Internet for research, finding images and sending and receiving Emails. Particular emphasis is placed on the safe use of the Internet and the potential problems that could arise.

Internet safety is of paramount importance to the school pupils can not have unsupervised access and sophisticated firewalls allow each pupil to have their own email, accessed whenever they are free to do so.

In addition to the timetabled ICT lessons the pupils are often taught other subjects in the ICT suite using the skills gained from their ICT lessons. This occurs across the Prep School year groups from Year 4 to Year 8. In Years 7 and 8 the pupils produce a detailed geography project for Common Entrance, which is completed using the ICT suite.

The ICT Room is available for use throughout the day from 8am to 9pm both in lesson time and free time when the ICT teacher is often on hand to offer help and guidance.
