Latin is deemed a very important subject at Bramcote and receives a high profile. Even at Year 3 pupils can be heard reciting "amo, amas, amat" in the school playground at break, as roots are established early. It is studied by all children except those receiving extra English assistance, and results at Common Entrance and in Scholarship examinations are invariably extremely good.
We never lose sight of the fact, however, that it should be a fun subject to learn and, as well as the inevitable rigour of remembering vocabulary and syntax, much of the work covered is of a non-language nature. using ICT, video and DVD, and the extensive reference resources available, topics such as Greek Mythology, Gladiators and Roman Sport, to name but a sample, are also an integral part of the curriculum.
