Bramcote Pre-Prep Press

Dear Parents and Friends

Looking back to the first edition of the Pre-Prep Press I realise how far the Pre-Prep has progressed in such a short time. We started with six children this time last year. This September saw 24 on role. The school is a busy, happy environment with lots of good work already on the walls and in the children's files.

We welcomed our new pupils, Ellie and Josh in Reception, Rose in Year One, Charlotte in Year Two and Kevin in Year Three. We also welcomed Mrs Moxon who teaches in Reception and Year One.

After half term we will be busy rehearsing for not only the Christmas play but also a Harvest Assembly and a Christingle Assembly. We warmly welcome family and friends to these events.

Year Three visited Hull Museum to find out all about the Ancient Egyptians. It was quite a long journey but thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs Grant and Mrs Brown took Year 3 to ‘Hands on History Museum' in Hull. We had a guide called Bill, who showed us the Egyptian room. He showed us a real (dead) mummy which was about 3,000 years old and other artefacts, real and replica.

The best bit was when Hattie was being mummified. We had Anubis overseeing everything as we pulled body parts out, sprinkled Nile water on, covered her in salt and wrapped her in bandages.
He even managed to start us off with a scientific experiment to investigate what happens to an apple when it is put in salt. We will be checking and talking about them in the months to come...You will get to take them home in July...!

The Fire Brigade made their annual visit to remind us of the dangers of fire and how we can keep safe. Their visit was a great success as the children were able to carefully investigate the Fire Engine and find out about all the equipment kept on board.

Georgie writes about the Firemen's visit:

The firemen showed us the fire engine. They showed us some hoses. There were big hoses and little hoses. We were told to 'Get out and stay out and call 999 and they put on special suits so they don't get burnt and when they use the big hoses they can't move them because they are too heavy. The little hoses are easier to move. We have to check our smoke alarms at home. I have one it is broken! I hope the fireman will mend it for us. We watched the movie Fireman Sam. I liked it. If there is a fire you must get out and stay out. I thought the ladder was interesting. I think it would be like flying to climb up that ling ladder. The firemen have a camera to see if people are in dark smoky rooms. I liked the firemen coming.

School winter hats are stocked in the school shop. The children should have a hat in school, as our playground gets quite cold at times!

I hope we shall have a Tennis Coach after half term to enable us to run the Tennis After School Club.

I hope to be able to book the children into the Spa to enjoy this year's Pantomime 'Snow White'. Details will follow after half term.

Sadly we had some very sad news. Flame returned from his summer holiday, having spent time with different children. He picked up a chest infection on his return to school and despite the best efforts of the vet, gave up and passed away. The children took the news very well. We shall not be replacing him, as he was very special and irreplaceable!

Amy El-B writes about Flame:

Flame was a guinea pig. He was ginger with red eyes and he slept in a cage and we held him every day. Flame loved to whistle and he liked carrots and he liked me and he liked dandelions and he liked to be pushed in the pram and I miss him. He was a very nice guinea pig and he caught a chest infection and he died in Mrs. Panter's house. The children miss we. We used to help Mrs. Stockhill to clean him out. I am sad he is dead. He was cute and easy to catch. Flame was beautiful.

I hope you have a lovely half term holiday with your children and look forward to your return.

With very best wishes,

Judith Panter
