Netball

Netball matches against other schools are frequent and usually take place in the sports hall. At the junior level, girls often play 'high five' netball so that they get the chance to familiarise themselves with different skills and positions.

U13 Netball v. Terrington & Malsis at Terrington

v. Malsis -  Won 11-2
v. Terrington - Lost 4-10

The Under 13 girls netball team arrived at Terrington School for a double match with Malsis and Terrington. Miss Stewart was at home nursing a serious back injury so their old Under 9 coach was pulled in (that’s me Miss Worton / Mrs Emmerson). The girls reminded me of the old days, when I used to jump up and down on the side line with excitement…… guess what? Nothing’s changed! Hannah Brice (WD) captained the side of Georgina Deri (C), Beth Bulmer (WA), Beth McClarron (GA), Honor Soutar (GS), Ellen Wilson (GD) and Maggie Kalilani (GK).

We played Malsis first and from winning the toss, the girls played confidently for four ¼s of 6 minutes. Beth scored the first goal of the match. Passes were accurate, marking was tight and the girls moved well. For the first 2 quarters, Beth and Honor matched each other goal for goal with quarterly scores of 4-0 and 4-0. Malsis stepped up their play and gave us the run around in the third ¼, but  Ellen and Maggie intercepted well and kept on top of them with Bricey linking up to keep the score down to 2 to Malsis with Beth McClarron sneaking in another goal, running score, 9-2 to Bramcote. The final ¼ showed 2 teams of weary girls, but we kept the pressure on and speedy Georgina worked the centre court with Beth Bulmer to allow Beth McClarron and Honor to score another each. The final score being a triumphant Bramcote win, 11-2.

After a 2 minute rest, the already exhausted girls had to face Terrington. Well, our girls were in the zone, warmed up and had a brilliant first ¼. Each shooter scored, with Beth’s shot being from well towards the edge of the D. Terrington managed to just squeeze 1 in before time. 2-1 to Bramcote.

The next ¼ was tough, tiredness really showed and our girls just struggled to mark tight, we played well when we had the ball. But Terrington scored 6 goals, despite excellent interceptions from Maggie, Hannah and Ellen. Running score of 2-7 to Terrington.

As we continued, Bramcote guts and determination gave Beth the opportunity to score a 3rd and the Terrington goals were kept down to 3. The final ¼ again demonstrated the physical exhaustion that comes from non-stop running for 40 odd minutes. We kept the Terrington score down to 0 and we scored another, making the final score 10-4 to Terrington.

It was great to see such good support from Bramcote parents. On a personal note it was lovely to see the progression of these young ladies, who I so fondly remember as my butter fingered, determined, delightful first Under 9 team. Well done girls. I was really proud of you!
Helen Emmerson.

1st VII Netball v. Moorlands (h)  Lost 11 - 12

Bramcote made a good start to their first match of the season, gaining posession from the Moorlands' centre pass and scoring. Moorlands immediately did the same and the first quarter was tough for both teams. In the second quarter, Moorlands found their rhythm, taking their score to 5, with Bramcote holding on to 4 goals. By the end of a frantic third quarter, Bramcote had pulled level thanks to some accurate shooting from Beth McClarron and Honor Soutar. In the final quarter, both teams were paniking a little as it was so evenly matched. Consequently, forced errors materialised and it was Moorlands who managed to make the most of their scoring chances, despite the best efforts of Ellen and Maggie in defence, winning 12 - 11 at the final whistle. Georgina, Romi, Jay and Hannah all worked hard in centre court to feed the ball into the Bramcote attacking area. All the Bramcote girls played well - an encouraging team performance.
