1st 7 a-side Hockey v. St Martin's Ampleforth

St Martin’s Ampleforth (SMA) were quick to put the pressure on Bramcote from the word go, gaining a short corner which they scored from after their shot deflected off a Bramcote foot making it harder for the keeper to reach. Bramcote worked hard throughout the whole game but struggled to pass to their own players and often waited for the ball to come to them which was then intercepted by an SMA player. SMA were a strong, skilful side and three more great goals came in the first half, taking the score to 4 – 1, after Beth McClarron scored the Bramcote goal.
The second half was much the same with SMA applying the pressure. Honor played well in defence staying calm and having the confidence to take the ball up the field herself. We had a number of scoring opportunities and were so unlucky with the ball just running wide or hitting the post. SMA were still quick on the break with more shots at goal which were well blocked and cleared by Hannah Brice in goal. The teams kept battling and with five minutes to go the girls made the best come back I’ve ever seen by a Bramcote team scoring three goals more or less one after the other – once the first goal had gone in they actually believed they could score and the other two goals followed (goals from Maggie, Beth Bulmer and Ellen). SMA picked up in the final minute of the game but the Bramcote defence managed to keep the ball out of the circle until the final whistle went. A great game and a fabulous comeback – don’t leave it so late next time! Well played everyone. Drew 4 - 4

1st XI Mixed Hockey v. Fyling Hall

The seniors took their time to settle into their game against Fyling Hall on a bitterly cold afternoon. They found it difficult to hold their position and let the ball move freely. Fyling Hall dominated the first half by applying pressure on the Bramcote midfield and defence. Fyling Hall’s first goal came from a lack of marking in the D giving them an easy shot that passed by the keeper. Bramcote came back and gained a short corner but Fyling Hall cleared the ball quickly. Fyling Hall’s second goal came from a muddle in the circle and it trickled over the line as the keeper went to kick the ball away. The score was 2 – 0 to Fyling Hall at half time.
The second half was totally different after a few ‘pointers’ during the half time discussion and it was encouraging to see the Bramcote players being more determined and thinking more carefully. Charlie Cowen and Beth Bulmer in defence came to meet the ball quicker and were able to distribute it up the field. Ellen in midfield worked hard feeding the ball into the D. Charlie Watts was extremely unlucky not to score a few goals but the Fyling Hall keeper was on good form saving many shots. Bramcote managed to score in the final minutes of the game with a quick, clean hit fro Maggie – a great goal. The final score was 2 – 1 to Fyling Hall. A much improved second half performance by the Bramcote team who were unlucky not to level the score. Lost 1 - 2

Mixed Age Girls' Hockey v. Ripon

The Bramcote girls made a strong start applying pressure top the Ripon defenders within the opening minutes of the game. The first goal came from a quick reverse stick flick by Ellen and a second soon followed again by Ellen in a similar fashion. Ripon fought back breaking through the Bramcote defence and swept the ball hard from the top of the D past the keeper. The Bramcote girls picked up the pace with two more goals coming from Lily Naylor and Bliss, taking the score to 4 – 1 at half time. Bramcote continued to dominate throughout the second half with Beth Bulmer weaving past a defender and flicking the ball into the goal and Lily scoring her second after some determined play. The whole team worked hard until the final whistle and were unlucky not to score more thanks to some great saves made by the Ripon keeper.  Won 6 - 1.

Ist 7 a-side Hockey  v. Scarborough College

The girls knew that their game against Scarborough College was going to be tough and they all started out with great determination and played really well as a team. Everyone was marking and trying to close the gaps and they were all trying to get to the ball first. The game went from end to end with both teams working hard to maintain possession, and both having shots at goal that were well saved by both goal keepers. Time was ticking down and with only a few minutes to go both teams were looking to score that goal. College picked up the ball in midfield and ran down into their D unchallenged and scored in the far left hand side of the goal and a second goal followed straight after in a similar fashion. Two good goals from College but Bramcote were unlucky to lose 2 - 0 as they had kept them at bay for so long and were unlucky not to score a couple themselves. Ellen in midfield had an excellent game as did Gerogina Deri in defence, but all in all a really good team effort. Well done girls, you almost held on.

1st 7 a-side Hockey v. Queen Mary's

After watching the U11 team win their game 2-1 against Queen Mary's, the 1st team were warmed up and ready to go. Both teams got straight into the game which was end to end from start to finish. Bramcote played with determination and the first goal came from Beth McClarron who was well positioned on the penalty spot as the ball came across and drilled the ball past the keeper. Queen Mary's came straight back with a hit a goal from the top of the D which Hannah Brice in goal deflected out into space. Ellen and Maggie worked hard in midfield and pushed up to threaten in the D. Bramcotes second goal came from a scrappy battle between QM's defence and the Bramcote forwards, whereby Georgina Deri saw her chance and slotted the ball past the right hand side of the keeper. Both teams continued to battle for possession with strong tackles from all players. Beth Bulmer and Honor in defence played with composure, clearing the ball out wide on many occasions. Bramcote's third goal came half way through the second half after a quick clearance from defence to midfield who then drove the ball to Georgina who dribbled it into the left side of the circle and shot passed the keeper. Again QM put pressure straight back onto Bramcote and were unlucky not to score, thanks to good keeping from Hannah Brice. A great afternoon was had by all - two evenly matched games that could have gone either way. Well done to everyone.

1st 7 a-side Hockey v. Malsis

The Bramcote girls had the first push back in their game against Malsis and made an encourgaing start by attacking their circle. It was however shortlived because Malsis took the hit out and kept possession of the ball and four quick goals later a shell shocked Bramcote couldn't quite believe what had happened. Two of the goals were down to player error and the other two were great shots. The Bramcote girls kept going and broke through into their circle on a number of occasions and had some super shots at goal (Maggie, Ellen and Bliss), but the Malsis keeper made some excellent saves.

After a good half time talking to and Malsis making some changes it was great to see the Bramcote girls come out more positive and showing more speed and determination especially when on the attack. Beth McClarron scored our first goal which was well worked into the D by Ellen and Bliss with Beth sweeping it into the back of the goal. This clearly lifted lifted the girls and a second goal followed shortly after by Ellen who carried the ball into the circle and pushed it passed the keeper. The girls battled on and a third goal came after a scrappy bit of play where Ellen had managed to find a bit of space to reverse stick and flick the ball in the goal. Malsis made some changes and came back at Bramcote but we managed to hold on despite the pressure with cool, calm tackling from Georgina, Honor and Tilly in defence. The final score was 4 - 3 to Malsis. A great fight back and an excellent second half. Well done everybody.

1st 7 a-side Hockey v. Minster

The Bramcote girls travelled to York for their game aginst Minster on Monday afternoon. They made a good start putting pressure on the Minster players right from the whistle. The Minster girls battled hard to clear the ball but when they gained possession they were quickly closed down and tackled by Ellen or Maggie in midfield and by Honor and Georgina in defence, which meant that they were only able to get the odd shot at goal. The Bramcote girls worked well as a team and it was good to see some accurate passing and attacking moves into the D. This enabled the Bramcote team to score 6 goals by the end of the game with goals from Beth, Ellen, Romi, Maggie and two from Honor. Well done girls a great team performance.

1st 8 a-side Hockey v. Terrington

As soon as we stepped off the bus at Terrington the rain came which made the conditions in the first half more difficult than we had hoped. The Bramcote girls palyed well from the start but found it difficult to move the ball cleanly. Both teams battled for possession and the Terrington girls broke through the Bramcote defence with their first goal coming from an unmarked player in the circle. Bramcote worked hard to push the ball up into their half but we just couldn't get a clean shot at goal as the Terrington defence were always close by.

Thankfully the rain stopped at half time, but it was still hard going for both teams. The Bramcote girls did really well to hold off Terrington despite being under constant pressure in defence. Honor had a great game making some solid tackles and moving the ball out wide, Ellen, Georgina and Maggie were everywhere in midfield playing with speed and determination but we just could not get a shot at goal. Terrington's second goal came from a penalty corner where the defence tended to stand and let the attacker have a free shot which trickled passed everyone into the goal. It was unlucky, especially after all their hard work. Terrington's third goal came again from unmarked players. What a shame as we held on for most of the game and the last two goals came in quick succession within the last few minutes of the game. The Bramcote girls were unlucky to lose 3 - 0 at the final whistle as they had worked so hard for the whole match.

Under 11 Hockey v. Cundall Manor

The U11 Hockey team played in an excellent close hockey match against Cundall Manor on Wednesday. The girls played very well as part of a team and were winning 2-1 at half time. Despite having many chances in the second half, we only scored one more goal. Cundall came back strongly and scored four goals, winning the match 5-3. Congratulations to our girls, Bliss (c), Madeleine, Tilly, Charlotte, Hannah, Lily and Millie for playing so well.

1st XI Hockey  v. Fyling Hall

The Bramcote 1st XI hockey team enjoyed their game against Fyling Hall on a bright and breezy afternoon. They made a good start to the game and had most of the play in the first half, putting pressure on Fyling Hall girls. There were some promising attacking moves form the midfield players, Beth and Ellen, but they were stopped from having a shot at goal by some strong tackling from the Fyling Hall defence. Our best chances came in the first half but we just could not get a shot at goal. In the second half of the game the Fyling Hall players were passing the ball well and made some good break throughs into their attacking circle. Beth Bulmer at sweeper had a great game and cleared the ball cleanly on many occasions. The Fyling Hall goal came from the Bramcote defence trying to clear the ball across the circle which was then picked up and the player was given time to take a shot which went straight through the legs of another defender who was stood directly in front of the GK. Not the best line of defence! The girls kept their heads up and in were awarded a penalty corner in the last moments of the game, but again we just could not get a shot at goal.

An evenly matched game that was played in good spirits. Well tried everyone.

1st 8 a-side Hockey  v. Read

The Bramcote girls made a strong start by immediately putting pressure on the Read defenders who tackled well to clear the ball. Bramcote kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a goal from Beth McClarron. Read came back at Bramcote meaning that Honor and Maggie in defence had to make some vital tackles which they did successfully clearing the ball up the field. The ball went from end to end with both teams having opportunities to score but some good saves from Jay at GK stopped the score line creeping up. Our second goal came after Beth McClarron picked the ball up from a pass by the 25 metre line and she dribbled it straight into the D and struck it past the keeper. Read rallied coming back to score when the Bramcote defence had been drawn out of position leaving too many Read players unmarked. Beth followed this with her third of the game after Honor cleared the ball to midfield where Ellen picked it up and passed it to Beth. Beth Bulmer and Hannah Brice were both in strong positions in the D to follow up the shot from Beth if needed, as was Georgina Deri who had had a great game in mid-field, but the ball went straight into the back of the goal. Bramcote wining 3 - 1 at the final whistle. Well done everyone.

Under 11 Hockey v. Read

The U11 girls played their first away match of the season at Read School on Saturday. All the girls played incredibly well as a team. In the first half Tilly, Madeleine and Hannah stopped any advance towards our goal while Bliss, Lauryn, Millie and Lily commanded the midfield and forward positions. We were 2-0 up at half time, once we had scored again in the second half we swapped positions around a little and scored another 2 goals. The final score was 5-0 to Bramcote.

Well done to all the girls.

1st 7 a-side Hockey v. Scarborough College

The Senior girls were looking forward to their first hockey match of the term and they made an encouraging start straight from the whistle. It took them a little time to get used to the fast astro surface, but they soon realised it was easier to have their stick on the ground as much as possible. The game was evenly matched with both teams putting pressure on each other. The Bramcote defence of Maggie and Georgina worked hard to clear the ball and Ellen and Beth in midfield worked tirelessly both in attack and defence making some vital tackles to break down the college attack. We had some positive moves which led to some shots at goal which were either saved by the College GK or went wide of the goal. We persevered and were eventually rewarded with a super goal from Honor who swept the ball to the left of the GK. Our lead was short lived as College came straight back at us drawing the defence out of position leaving the College attack unmarked with an open shot at goal which was struck quickly past Beth Bulmer at GK who was unlucky not to get a deflection after reaching with her stick. The game continued to produce scoring opportunities for both teams but neither were able to convert them after some great saves by both keepers - the final score 1 - 1. A really good team effort and an encouraging start to the season. Well done everyone.
