Football is played by the junior boys throughout the winter and by the senior boys in the Spring term. For Match Reports, please scroll down this page.

Football

Bramcote regularly hosts football tournaments (such as the annual Primary Schools' event in October) and local clubs often use the sports' hall and field for matches and training. There are plenty of opportunities for children to play football outside games' sessions - for example, there is an indoor football league on Friday evenings during the winter and a football activity after school in the summer.

Under 13 Football vs. Terrington (a) Lost 1-7

With two good players already missing we could have done without the Bramcote skipper and best player, Josh Kidger, going down with cellulitis on the morning of the game and on a typically cold and breezy afternoon at Terrington it was no great surprise that we were well beaten. A soft goal was conceded in the first two minutes when a harmless looking looking shot trickled through the keeper's legs into the goal and from then on Terrington's more skilful players dominated. The away side mounted a bit of a fight back in the second half and a well worked goal was a just reward for some dogged effort in difficult conditions but it was always obvious that, in terms of footballing ability, there was a gulf in quality between the sides.

U11A Football v Terrington (a) Lost 1-6.

On a very large pitch, in blustery conditions, the Under 11s were outplayed by a strong, fit and well organised Terrington six.
Harry Anderson ran tirelessly in the midfield, creating some chances for himself and others. Freddie Cade again showed good positional sense in defence, but was often over run by a physically stronger opposition. Benjie Wilson found it difficult to keep going, the size of the pitch and the strength of the wind gradually sapping his energy.
Bliss Horwell again showed her skill and strength by continually proving to be a difficult opponent for the less agile members of the Terrington defence. The only Bramcote goal came from a great solo effort from Harry Anderson, who lacked support around him on the day.

Under 9 Football vs Terrington (a) Lost 1-5

On a bright but very windy afternoon the Under 9 team came up against a strong and skilful Terrington side. By half-timeTerrington had found the net 3 times despite some determined defending. James Naylor and Edward Lockwood had, as always worked hard in midfield but had been unable to breach the strong and determined Terrington defence. In the second half we were able to play more constructive football and James Naylor put together some penetrating runs into the Terrington half. As confidence grew the passing developed and we were able to have some attempts on the Terrington goal. A determined run by James Naylor opened up the Terrinton defence and he finished confidently burying the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately that was the only goal we managed to score and Terrinton found the net twice more, one a looping shot that was caught in the swirling wind whch gave keeper West no chance. We will need to develop a little more teamwork and closer ball control before we go into the next game.

Scarborough Primary Schools Football League : Indoor Match Day One

Results:

vs. Hackness Won 1-0 (Watts)

vs. St George's Drew 0-0

vs. College Won 1-0 (Bowman)

vs. Hunmanby Won 3-1 (Bowman 2, Horwell)

The Under 11 side made light of the absence of the ill Harry Anderson to win three games and draw one in the opening round of the Primary schools' indoor football league. The quality of their play improved steadily during the course of the afternoon as all realised that 'taking a touch' and making a thoughtful pass was more effective than simply booting the ball up the hall. Matthew Bowman led the team well and looked the skilful player that he is, but the whole team worked hard especially in defence. Freddie Cade and Benjie Wilson were very quick to close the opposition down and prevent them shoooting while keeper Max Bingham can feel proud of his efforts as he only conceded one goal all afternoon. Special mention should also be made of Bliss Horwell who has earned a place in the boys' team on merit and who capped a fine series of performances with a goal in the final game.

Under 9 football vs Moorlands (h) Drew 2-2

This was a game of football between 2 groups of very enthusiastic boys played at breakneck speed! There were times when the ageing referee struggled to keep up with play as the ball went from end to end and side to side faster than a tennis ball in a Grand Slam final. Moorlands opened the scoring following some hesitation in the Bramcote defence. The Moorlands players were kee, competitive and quite skilful although Bramcote had the edge in pace with James Naylor and Edward Lockwood. After a frantic first half of 20 minutes Moorlands held the lead at 1-0.

The Bramcote defence came out in the second half a little more organised and showed a determination to terminate the Moorlands attacks. Some good link up play from defence and into midfield released the runners of Lockwood and Naylor. The ball found its way to Donny Lee on the left who beat a player and from a narrow angle drilled the ball into the Moorlands goal for a fine equaliser. Moorlands were spurred on and fine defending by the trio of Jack Chafer, Stephen Davison and Tommy Hudson ensured that very few shots were made on goal. On the occasions they got through Sebastian West in goal made some outstanding saves. An unfortunate error on the right allowed Moorlands in and they seized their chance to retake the lead. Not wanting to settle for this Edward Lockwood and James Naylor made some foraging runs into the Moorlands half well supported by Jack and Stephen from defence. From one of these attacks the ball fell to the goal hungry Donny Lee whose shot was parried by the keeper, handled by a defender on the line before rolling over into the goal for a well deserved equaliser.

This was a great afternoon of soccer thoroughly enjoyed by all boys, coaches and spectators.

Under 11 Football v Moorlands (h)

Each side provided two U11 teams of six-a-side for the first home encounter of the season. We split our resources evenly between the two teams. Matthew Bowman and Harry Anderson leading one team each. Both of these boys impressed with there dominance of the game and dictated play from the midfield. Harry had some great attempts from distance and Matthew completed some skilful dribbling. Benji Wilson was his usual energetic self, combining well with Harry and scoring three goals, whilst Freddie Cade provided determined tackling for the other side, particularly up against Moorlands strongest six. There were some good contributions from our guest players from Woodleigh. The final slot in one Bramcote six was shared between, Bliss Horwell and Lauryn Lee, both girls being available because there was no netball fixture. They certainly played a full part and Bliss was particularly effective, leading the way with her firm tackling of the opposition.
Inevitably it took time for the two groups to gel together, each playing against the two Moorlands teams. There were two wins and two loses overall, suggesting a fairly successful afternoon for everyone.

Under 13 football vs. Moorlands (h) Won 4-0

The first run out for the combined Bramcote/Woodleigh Under 13 football side was approached with some trepidation by the coaches as the boys had not trained together and we were not even certain where everyone was going to pla until ten minutes before the kick ofy. However this anxiety proved to be unfounded as the side played surprisingly well to record a convincing 4-0 win over a determined but inexperienced Moorlands side. Two goals in the first half were a just reward for a dominant display and, although the home side were playing against the wind in the second half, they still managed to add to their tally after the break. There was some encouragingly accurate passing and a pleasing reluctance just to kick the ball anywhere as the boys from both schools linked well together building on the team spirit which had been obvious in the rugby season. Josh Kidger was the pick of the Bramcote players as he looked a constant threat to the visiting defence while Charle Watts worked hard and took his two goals well. In midfield Toby Wrightson was excellent combining tough tackling with some surprisingly pereceptive passing while in defence Will Newitt, Charlie Cowen and the Williams brothers did a pelasingly soild job of terminating the Moorlands attacks.

A good start to the season - rather better than expected!

Under 11 Football vs Minster

The Junior boys travelled to York for 2 games of football on a bright but cold afternoon. On arrival at the field we realised how cold it was with an icy puddle in the middle and some pretty hard clumps across the playing area! Minster suggested 2 small sided games an 'A' team of 6-a-side and a 'B' team of 7-a-side.

The A team got off to a good start when Harry Anderson had possession on the left hand side and drilled the ball towards the goal where it went between the 'keeper and his near post to open the scoring. Minster then started to put things together and tackled strongly in midfield. Some good saves by Max Bingham in the Bramcote goal ensured we had a one goal lead at half time. The coach asked for a little more team work in the Bramcote midfield and this was soon rewarded with a second goal; Some good passing between Harry Anderson and Edward Lockwood exposed the Minster defence leaving William Watts to slot the ball home. Some excellent individual skill from Harry Anderson resulted in his second goal and Bramcote's third. At that point Minster started playing good passing football and quickly added 2 goals causing a touch of panic and frustration in the Bramcote team. Fortunately the team rallied and settled back into a rhythm. In the final minutes some good play stopped a Minster attack and Anderson completed his hat trick with a fine individual run and finish.  The final score was a 4-2 victory for Bramcote.

The B team played some good football and had a thrilling encounter with Minster. To give all players a fair chance positions were rotated throughout the game from goalkeeper to striker. James Naylor scored 2 fine goals, one of them a good assist by Sebastian West in his spell out of goal. The final score in this game was 2-2, a creditable draw and a game much enjoyed by players and spectators.

This was a good start to 2012 for the Juniors; the hard work lies ahead with more fixtures to come.

Under 11 Football v. Scarborough College

The Under 11 boys have played a lot of sport with the College this term and there has been nothing between the schools at rugby and hockey but Bramcote are probably a little stronger at football and this was reflected in the 9-2 scoreline. The College boys played with great determination but found it hard to deal with the twin threat of Harry Anderson and Matthew Bowman who looked dangerous very time they got the ball. To the College's credit, thye never gave up and actually scored the last goal of the game.

Primary Schools' Annual Football Tournament

The Bramcote side was, disappointingly, rather under strength for the annual primary schools' tournament held in perfect conditions at Bramcote and the young side found it hard going against the best players in the local area. The boys worked hard and defended well in their seven games losing three by a single goal and drawing two 0-0. Unfortunately, goals were very hard to come by - we did not score one!

Special mention should be made of Harry Anderson who battled manfully all morning to inspire the team and who looked a good player and also Jack Chafer who defended in determined fashion.

Primary Schools' Football League - match day one

The Under 11 footballers made a solid start to the prmary schools' league season as they earned promotion from the bottom division. A nervy start saw the team draw with Northstead but the other games against Hackness (1-0), Scarborough College (2-0), and Gladstone Road (2-1) were won with some good football being played and a pleasing improvement being  shown by the team during the afternoon. Matthew Bowman was in sparkling form and Harry Anderson looked a fine player but there were also good performances from some of the younger players. In particular, Freddie Cade was excellent in defence and he was well supported by Jack Chafer who stepped in at the last moment for the unavailable Edward Lockwood.

Under 11 Football v. Scarborough College (a)

The Under 11 boys were in good form as they won this match against local rivals Scarborough College. The College side had some skilful, strong players and they battled hard but with Matthew Bowman and Harry Anderson leading the way the Bramcote boys were able to score seven well worked goals. A good team effort with the whole side - Max Bingham, William Watts, James Naylor, Freddie Cade, Benji Wilson and Edward Lockwood - playing their part.

Under 11 Football v. Ladybarn House (h)

It was a great pleasure to welcome Ladybarn from Manchester to Scarborough for their annual visit and the spectators were treated to a fine game full of skill and enterprise. Ladybarn is a huge school of 460 pupils under the age of 11 and their side was stacked full of academy players from Manchester United, Manchester City, Oldham etc. and so the Bramcote side was strengthened by players from Scalby FC who, in turn, are some of the best in the Scarbrough area. With so much skill on the pitch it was not surprising that an excellent game game ensued with a late penalty ensuring the visitors secured a deserved draw.
