Dear Parents

iPods / MP3 Players

A substantial number of children own iPods/MP3 players and bring them to school.  As Christmas approaches, I imagine this number will increase. Whilst this practice, in itself, is perfectly acceptable, I would remind you of the following issues:

First, that you should make sure that any expensive items are covered by your own household insurance, as the loss or damage of personal property is not covered by the School.

Second, whilst we are happy for pupils to use these devices, we do impose some restrictions as to where and when they can be used.  As technology has moved on, it is clear that many of the devices have video as well as audio facilities on them. We are happy for pupils to listen to their own choice of music at appropriate times, but we do not want children watching videos.  The School has a clear policy on the certificate of films that children may watch.  Boarders are allowed to watch a video or DVD on a Saturday evening before bedtime, and there are usually 2 different films.  Form VI pupils (and Form V pupils from the Summer Term) sometimes watch a 12, all other pupils watch a PG or U.

Third, there are no opportunities for children to add items to their players at school, so all material loaded onto iPods/MP3 players is done at home and is, therefore, at the discretion of parents. As the holidays approach, could I ask all parents to ensure that all the material on their children’s players is age appropriate.

Carol Service – Friday 18 December

I have been asked to clarify the details of the Carol Service.  This event will be held at 3.30 pm on Friday 18 December at St Martin’s Church, Albion Road, Scarborough, YO11 2BY.  Please bring friends and family.

Desk Calendar for 2010

We are expecting the delivery of the Bramcote photographic colourful desk calendars for 2010 later this week so they will be available to purchase from Friday 11 December, please ask Gina for details.

West Yorkshire Playhouse – 22 January 2010

Mrs Clark has booked to take Forms II, III and IV to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on Friday 22^nd January 2010 to see “The Secret Garden”.  Could you please let me know by the end of term if you do not want your child(ren) to go on this trip.
