Exeat

The children are looking forward to a well deserved break this weekend.  They have worked hard in the first few weeks of the term and I hope that you would provide them with opportunities for rest and relaxation over the exeat.  It is important that they can return refreshed for what will be a busy session up to half term.  I am very grateful to all the staff for the hard work which they have done in order to ensure that the year has got off to such a positive start.  They also very much deserve their exeat break.  Ann and I are looking forward to spending some time with our family and I would ask you not to try to contact the school (except in a real emergency) until after 6pm on Monday evening.  Should you need to alter travel arrangements at the last moment, please contact the bus drivers directly (see below).  Thank you for your understanding.

Exeat Travel Arrangements – Friday 2nd October to Monday 5th October 2009

The Exeat begins on Friday 2nd October at 12.30 pm and ends on Monday 5th October at 8.00 pm (for boarders) or Tuesday 5th October at 8.25 am (for day pupils).   Please find enclosed the travel arrangements for this exeat and inform Gina as soon as possible of any changes.  Mobile phone numbers are on the travel arrangements so you can contact the various buses direct, if there is a problem.

Winter Uniform

A reminder that children return after the exeat in winter uniform.

Boys:  Trousers, long sleeved shirt, tie and jumper

Girls:   Kilt, long sleeved shirt, tie, jumper, navy blue tights

Boarders can return on Monday 5th October in their summer uniform, bringing with them any items of winter uniform not already at school, so they are ready to wear winter uniform on Tuesday morning.

The School Shop will be open this Wednesday - 30th September between 3.30 to 5.00 pm.

Tennis Coaching

Patrick Robinson, the school tennis coach, has started lessons for those children who have asked for them.  He has one or two slots still available.  Please see John Horton or e-mail him (john.horton@bramcoteschool.com) if you are interested in your child having an individual or group tennis lesson.  Patrick is also available for adult tennis coaching if any parents are interested.

Extra Sports fixtures after the Exeat

Tuesday 6th October.  We are planning to take all Year III, IV, V and VI children who are normally in school until 5.30 pm to a cross country event at Scarborough College.  This event starts at 4.00 pm.  We are not expecting those children who normally leave before 5.30 pm to attend but, of course, they are very welcome if they would like to come.  If your child normally goes home before 5.30 pm on a Tuesday but would like to run, please let John Horton know.

Thursday 8th October.  The Under 11/10 boys and girls swimming team will be attending a swimming gala at Scarborough indoor pool in the morning.  The team will be published after the exeat.  Parents are, or course, very welcome to come and watch.

News Items

New Driver

I am pleased to inform parents that I have appointed Mr Iain Hall as a Minibus Driver. Iain will collect children on the Malton/Brompton bus in the mornings. He is a very experienced driver of various vehicles, he is a qualified instructor and runs his own driving school. I am sure those parents who use this service look forward to meeting him.

Coffee with Ann Snow – Thursday 1st October

Please come along and have a coffee with Ann on Thursday morning after dropping off your child(ren) at school.

Coffee with the “Friends” – Friday 2nd October

Just a reminder that the “Friends” coffee morning will take place on Friday 2nd October at 11.30 am.  Please come along.  There will be a lady attending the coffee morning selling contemporary French fashion for children aged 18 months – 14 years of age.  Profits will be donated to Bramcote School.

David Byas Cricket Academy

In November, the ex Yorkshire cricket captain and coach, David Byas, will be running his Cricket Academy in the Bramcote sports hall on Wednesday evenings.  This is a great opportunity for those boys (and girls) who are interested in improving their cricket skills.  Details of the course are available in the reception or ask John Horton for more information.

British Food Fortnight

As you will know, there have been a number of changes to our catering arrangements this term.  We are trying to place a real emphasis on fresh food and products from local sources.  To this end, Bramcote is supporting British Food Fortnight and we are pleased to buy our food from local suppliers including:  Seamer Fayre, Gibsons in Ramshill, All Seasons Fruit and Vegetables, Frank Powell Fish Merchant (rod and line caught fish from Skipsea).  I hope the feedback you are getting from your children about the food is as positive as that which we have received in School.
