Geography
Geography is the study of the earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live. The aim of geography teaching at Bramcote is to stimulate pupils’ interest in their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the earth’s surface.
The pupils will be inspired to be fascinated and inquisitive about the world around them. It is an increasingly important subject as society becomes more global and issues such as global warming and environmental pollution begin to affect future generations as never before.
All pupils at Bramcote study Geography
Starting with the very young in the Pre-Prep to the scholarship candidates in Year 8. In the Prep School, (Years 4–8), pupils have 3 geography lessons and one prep each week with the subject being taught by a geography specialist. In fact where possible the Head of Geography teaches all the geography in the Prep School to ensure continuity.
A variety of teaching methods and resources is used to deliver the curriculum. These include whole class teaching involving discussion and interaction to individual research and the production of written tasks, diagrams and projects. As well as using traditional teaching methods use is made of recorded material, (video and DVD), to illustrate topics and increased use is made of ICT. The geography department is fortunate to have an interactive whiteboard with projector and internet link as well as being housed in the next room to the ICT suite.
